  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tethra

Omi

Wise Old Thumper
Looks like we have Myx again :( Tethra has symptoms of nodular Myx. Off to see my favourite vet at 11.10 this morning.

How sad for your wee girl! Lets hope she has her dads strength & resolve to battle through. It must be very worrying

Tethra is a chunky boy :) He was five last February.

Yes, it is worrying. He is lively and eating at the moment, but I fear that won't last long.

The vet is not 100% convinced yet that it's Myx, but I would be very surprised if it isn't :( I think it's just the early stages. In addition to the one large and one teeny tiny nodule on his nose, she thought that his lips might be also slightly swollen. Genitals fine. He, of course, opened his R eye really wide when there, although at home he half closes it.

Plan is to watch and wait and make sure he keeps eating. She wanted to start him on some Duphapen, but unfortunately hadn't any in stock, so he's had a shot of Baytril and I have another to give him tomorrow and then another appointment on Monday to re-assess and pick up some Duphapen.

Poor boykin :(

Poor boykin indeed though he is lucky you've spotted it & taken action so early. I'll be thinking of him - let us know how he goes x

I really hope that he will be able to fight it off if it is Myxi. More vibes being sent xx

How lucky for you to get a vet appointment and spot it all so early, and begin treatment.

I really hope he recovers soon. Sending vibes xx

Vibes for Tethra, Omi. Sorry I haven't been online lately and I didn't know your babies weren't well. :( Recovery energy on the way. xxxxxxx

Thanks very much for the vibes everyone.

Can't see any change yet, but then when Yan had it we and the vet thought it was possibly a bee sting for a couple of days at the beginning. Just a waiting game really.

On the plus side, he's still eating. I've been scouring the garden today and he's had oregano, lavender, geranium, parsley, sage and willowherb with a different one each hour being waved under his face :)

I'm glad Tethra is still eating and seems well in himself. I really hope it isn't myxi but it's good that you and your vet are going to be monitoring him closely and have a treatment plan ready just in case.

Topping up the vibes as well xx
