Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Space after neutering

Young Bun
My bunny is being neutered today, as we speak! He normally lives in a playhouse/avery set up that he is never restricted from. In the playhouse there is a shelf that he can jump onto and also a window viewing bit that he can jump on to.. and im told to keep him from jumping untill recovered?

My plan was to lock the dog flap so that he can't get out into the avery but i cannot restrict the shelf inside as he is a large bunny who doesn't use the ramp to get up there anyway!

Should i keep him overnight indoors in a dog crate maybe? Or will he be okay in his playhouse?

He has never stayed indoors before, he barely even goes into his playhouse he loves the outside so i am worried about stressing him out?

I'd keep him inside in the dog crate for at least the first night. This way you can check eating, drinking etc. If he copes okay for the first night then maybe keep him in for three days to allow the stitches to settle.

I couldn't keep him inside as after much trial and error he seems to be uncomfortable inside in a crate, so as it's warm out I've managed to block off the shelf, taken out the viewing platform and he is happy as Larry!

He is one minute eating hay and then some pelletes then he is flopping on his back and off to sleep, then repeat :) so far so good!

He is licking his wound though, they didn't say but should I be worried about stitches?

He may be cleaning it a little. As long as it's not obsessive, and no chewing I wouldn't worry.
It's possible they used surgical glue on the external which might be why they didn't mention stitches.
