Toast&Marmalade
Young Bun
Hi guys
I don't really post much as life is so busy, but I'm so upset about my beautiful Toastie that I had to post, and also in case anyone has heard of anything similar happening.
Toastie was fine late last night, and then this morning he was breathing fast and laying down (not on his side) and hiding in the shrubs and not coming to eat his breakfast. I also noticed his nose had swollen and the skin underneath was a much darker pink. I took him straight to the vets of course and he is still there .
I spoke to the vet at 6.30pm and she said despite seeming to brighten slightly in the afternoon, he had gone back to breathing fast etc, still wasn't eating and they had been syringe feeding him. She has started the treatment for mxy and also for a respiratory tract infection.
At 8pm she rang again to say his temperature had dropped and he was in an incubator and she was "ringing to prepare you for the worst". I was already crying and have only just been able to stop. I love him so much and his 'wife', Marmalade, adores him and him her. They have been together since they were babies.
The vet had spoken to a rabbit specialist in Norwich to see if there had been any similar cases etc. Apparently the Norwich vet had treated an atypical case of mxy recently with similar other symptoms. (I didn't ask the outcome as I couldn't speak by that point).
At 9.30pm she rang again to say they had managed to bring his temperature up and taken him out of the incubator so he doesn't get too hot. They have been giving him drugs to help keep his gut moving of course and plenty of fluids. They have also given him a sedative.
Please keep him in your thoughts if you can, he is such a beautiful boy, so soft and gentle and has never hurt anyone. It's so, so unfair he is so poorly .
