Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A rabbit with tooth pain will dribble and also drink loads to try and ease the pain.

If you stopped pellets and only gave hay (not sure if you did this) then he will have been trying to eat the hay and made his mouth sore, so needs to drink more.

Does that make sense?

I think he may need a dental. Have you got a good vet?

Good luck xx

It could be that he is not able to each much hay due to his Dental problems and so he is filling up on water.

He has a history of episodes of incontinence doesn't he ?

Did the Vet advise you to weigh Charlie regularly (every 2-3 days) as if you are cutting out all pellets you do need to make sure that he does not loose a lot of weight too quickly. This may happen if he is unable to eat much hay. A different jaw action is used by a Rabbit as they eat hay ( a rotational action) to the one they use to eat pellets (an up-and-down action). So if there is a molar spur a rotational jaw action when eating hay may mean that the spur catches on the cheek/tongue, something that may not happen when eating pellets. Loosing a lot of weight too quickly can have a negative impact on the Liver, especially if the Rabbit was initially rather 'portly'.

Yes he's had intermittent problems before. I did stop pellets as the vet said so but he only gets a small amount anyway. I've weighed him and he is the same weight as at the vets. I will be taking him back in but his wet episodes have been confusing as we haven't been able to get an answer, even with a good vet. I just worry about flies. Might have to get some rearguard

I'm glad his weight has remained stable. That's one good thing :thumb:

Does he eat grass, or forage or greens at all?

I think it would be good for your vet to establish that he's not in pain when he eats. Well that's what I would do :)

Did he every have a trial of Propalin ? If he has poor bladder control anyway, now he has started to drink alot more that is likely to worsen.

I know that it is time for a dental when my bunny starts drinking & urinating excessively. I thought it was incontinence too, but then I observed closely & found out he just rushed to the toilet & urinated over the lid.

You have to be a detective to solve what's wrong with these little critters!

You really do need to be a right detective! He has been put on meds for ec and the vet tidied his rear end. Not a happy bunny! His spurr hasimproved since last week. he should improve in a few days if not will go back. My usual vet is on holiday at the moment. Charlie seems perky this evening though i got meds all over his face

Meds all over his face! Poor Charlie! :D

However, he's in fact very lucky to have such attention and I'm glad the vet is taking it seriously and beginning some treatment.

I hope he does improve :)

Well he has been on the treatment for ec for 5days and I feel it's got worse. His bum is so wet it's leaving patches on the floor. I keep getting kitchen roll and dabbing his bottom which he lets me do. Am going to talk to a vet today. Typical it's a bank holiday weekend. I'm going to bring them a lovely urine sample

Remind me what meds he's on Lucy?

Sorry to hear things are no better ...

Good for the Baytril I think :) At least it will cover any bacterial infection and then hopefully the X-rays if needed will show up what's going on.

Poor wee mite!!

I hope that the Baytril might bring about an improvement in his symptoms. Will the Vet also take a urine sample via Cystocentesis if he has to have Xrays ?

I'm not sure but I will ask.

However he is really bright today. Bounding about and mostly dry :D hopefully it will continue yay

That's good, perhaps the Vet will want to make this course of Baytril a long one. Sometimes it can take a long course of abx treatment to totally eradicate a bladder infection as the core of the infection can be within the bladder wall x

Unfortunately he is leaving big puddles so have an appointment with a rabbit specialist tomorrow morning. Bit nervous
