Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can I get an opinion? *Big bum photo*

So just in case Poppy thinks I'm having a pop at her weight, I'm not, it's just that there is a big photo of her bum below

Poppy had a slightly mucky bum the other day, I had to cut away a poo that had dried into her underside, and a few splatterings around her bum too. I didn't think it was too much of an issue, so no vet visit - just cut back on wet veggies and treats (think she stole Billy's strawberry on top of her own).

I noticed a bald patch under her hind leg when following up on her today, and still some splatterings, which might have been left over from the other day. Now I'm paranoid she has a matt around her bum - what do you think? Is she looking OK?

I don't normally brush her underside - I figured it's quite stressful for her, and I thought she did a reasonable job herself. Should I be grooming this area?

Sorry - photo didn't work, so it's a link instead. The bald patch is bigger than the photo shows - I couldn't hold her leg/fur out the way while taking a photo and holding her too!

Maybe she's licked a bit of fur off while cleaning herself up. One of my boys has a biggish dewlap (I know, it's my fault for overfeeding them) and so he licks the inside of his thigh because he struggles to get to his bottom, and has a largeish bald patch there. I don't think I'd be worried about it, she looks clean and dry to me. I couldn't see a matt of hair anywhere.

Thanks! I worried that she had a matt around the bum hole, it felt more solid there than the rest of her underside... I am maybe paranoid.

She does have a bit of a dewlap coming in, I kinda thought it was just a normal sized one, but I'll check her weight to make sure she's not getting tubby. It's hard to tell by looking at Poppy, she's so fluffy!
