  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Intestinal tumpour or abscess?

Our 7 yr old German Lop has gone into stasis several times recently but recovered ok. It was the same on Friday but our vet was a bit concerned about something he could feel by his intestine. He was OK over the weekend but not eating this morning so we went back but our regular vet is away. An xray and ultrasound showed a tumour or abscess in or on his intestine but without our regular vet they did not feel able to proceed with an OP. We are now on our way to Cambridge Vets though we know Iain Cope is no longer there. Anyone any ideas or advice pl? Thank you.

I am sorry to hear about your poorly Rabbit. You will get excellent advice from Cambridge Vets. Obviously surgery will be risky, but the Vets at Cambridge are highly skilled and I am sure they will do all they can to help your Rabbit.

I really hope that he can recover xx

I'm really sorry to hear your Bun isn't feeling too well. You are definitely on it though, which will give him the best chance possible.

Thinking of him, and hoping for the best

Alfie has been admitted for hydration, bloods and more xrays. We will discuss surgery with them tomorrow morning. It seems that any surgery that involves the intestine itself is risky, if outside but adjacent to it possibly not so much so. Paws crossed for our gentle and brave bun.

Sending loads of positive vibes for your Alfie. Thinking of him and hoping that the vets can make him better.

I really hope the Cambridge vets will be able to help. They have an excellent reputation, so I am sure that your rabbit will be in very good hands :D

Good luck xx

Alfie ate a bit last night on his own and the vets thought he was a bit better. He also did some poo of sorts. We agree that the plan was to encourage the eating, pain meds, fluids, recovery if necessary etc and then tomorrow morning decide if to go for sedation and xrays. There is still concern that something can be felt in the intestinal area.
