Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dry edge of ear

New Kit
Hello.

I have a mini lop called Rufus. The edge of one of his ears is dry and flaky. He had a check up at the vets and they wormed him and his sister but they aren't sure what it is

A week later it's still there although it has not spread. It doesn't bother him and he isn't scratching or shaking his head. Does anyone have any ideas of what it may be and treatments or is it best to arrange another visit to the vet?

Many of thanks 😊

It's difficult to offer any advice about Rufus's ear without being able to actually see it. Personally I would go back to a Rabbit Savvy Vet to try to obtain a definitive diagnosis. It could be a simple case of 'dry skin'. But I would not want to start applying any lotions or potions to the ear if I was not sure what the problem was. It does not sound to be anything serious, so a quick trip to a Rabbit Savvy Vet should enable Rufus to receive any treatment deemed to be necessary.

Good luck xx

I had a bunny with little dry flaky patches on her ears, they were really minor. My vet said they were similar to eczema on a human. Good luck in getting it sorted
