Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi just wondered I have a 9yr old nethie who has slowly lost a lot of weight, he is fine in himself apart from a bit of stiffness from his arthritis, he has a really good appetite he even gets extra pellets compared to my other buns is it normal at his age with such a good appetite to lose some weight?? Thanks for reading x

Yes, sometimes this does happen in the elderlies.

If you make sure that you exclude all other reasons he may be losing weight - kidney issues, teeth etc, then it's a good idea to give a bit extra to keep the weight up. Especially on a nethie, as there's not much there to begin with!

I put a pinch of porridge oats out for my elderlies (morning and evening) and a few extra pellets. Occasionally sunflower seeds (just a very few) - helps with oils and vitamin E.
