Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi,
My 15 week old Netherland dwarf rabbit has started to scratch her neck and now its black and scabbed. It seems to be bigger. Were not sure whether to go to the vets but id like your advice first. Ill try to up load a photo, thanks

Hi there. I think it's always good to go to the vets, even with the smallest of concerns. It could be that your bunny has mites and needs treatment. Definitely upload a photo if you can as that will be helpful.

To add to MBE's helpful post, has your Rabbit had a vaccination in the last few weeks ? If so it may be that the 'black scab' is a local skin reaction to the vaccine.

Hi there and welcome to RU

A scab on the neck can be a number of things and from the sounds of it, a vet ought to take a look at it.

Has your rabbit had any injections or vaccinations over the past few weeks? If so, that can cause local irritation. The other possibilities are ringworm or fur mites :

Are there any scabs anywhere else, for example in the ears at all?
