  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just needed to let it out! ;-)

I rang up Manor Vets today to book an appointment for Blossom to have his mouth looked at by the vet that definitely saved his life last August when his abscess was at his work. I was told that she no longer worked there!

I feel a bit panic stricken. Our local vets are great but just loved having the reassurance that such a brilliant rabbit vet is in reach is such a comfort! :-( :-(

I haven't experienced this myself, but I can imagine it must be unsettling for you.

Do they have anyone else who is rabbit savvy or do you think you might have to change surgery? Maybe have a chat with them to find out who might be taking over the position, if that's what's happening x

Thanks, they do but this particular vet is just amazing and as I say definitely saved blossoms life.

I don't go there very often as I am generally comfortable with my vets, just occasionally I liked her to give him a check over and her expert opinion.

There other rabbit specialist only works Tuesdays so may have to Re jig work and maybe get her to see him if need be.

His abscess has been very well treated but he has dentals every 2 to 3 weeks and inbetween gets food trapped which causes him some discomfort.
He eats well and is a very lively free ranging house rabbit. I just worry too much maybe.

Thanks for your reply. :)

I had this a few months ago at my vet

Fabulous vet, really switched on with rabbits, totally clued up. Rang up three weeks later and <poof> gone

Can you get some recommendations off the Forum here?

Dont know why this posted twice!!!! ;-)

Hi I totally understand as I also relied on Marie at Manor Vets for my dental bunny and only found out yesterday! It is such a shame that she has left. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some rabbit savvy vets in the Birmingham area? many thanks

our vet is on maternity leave, although I do wonder if she is coming back or not? not only that the receptionist who was behind desk for 20 odd years I not seen her for a few months now, and the vet nurses are new to, there only 2 of the older vet nurses I am used to

When I rang they said that Molly was a rabbit specialist and was available on Tuesday - great to know but unless they time their illnesses for a Tuesday not hugely helpful!!;) I know they have other exotic specialists there - they may also be good, its just I like someone who knows Blossom - as I am sure you do too!!

Its frustrating.

Before we lost Berry, he had a great vet who went out of his way to provide extra care and advice - just as we were getting somewhere, he moved to London!!! I don't know, these vets with career aspirations eh... ;):D

I can well understand how you feel: I would be devastated if my rabbit vet left. I hope you manage to find another you feel you can trust. To me, having confidence in my vet is as important as in my doctor - and sometimes more so.

I would agree with the more so!! I think its the whole rabbit savvy worry isn't it?
Thanks x
