  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit snoring sound: Should I be worried?

Young Bun
I have just heard my bun making a snoring kind of sound. I think she might have done it before but not sure. She is in the best of health, no sneezing, runny nose or anything like that. She was obviously going off to sleep in that 'dreamy' state they do. Should I be worried that there is something wrong with her airway?

Some bunnies do snore my Rosie did when she was in the house or it could have been Pie as well I could hear her took me ages to work out it was one of them

Thanks very much for the reply. Maybe nothing to worry about then I hope! My husband tells me he has heard it before and she has been full of beans today. She was digging a hole in the sofa as usual this morning!! :D

my girls both snore, Joey doesn't. In the absence of any other health concerns I wouldn't worry but mention it to the vet at the next check up or consult them if it gets a lot worse. Its cute on bunnies, not so much on me apparently

Thank you, that has put my mind at rest. I would certainly take her to the vet if it got worse. I've had her and her sister for nearly six years now and dote on them both!! I have a stonking cold at the moment so not very popular myself on the snoring front...

Oh poor you - hope you feel better soon!

I have had snory rabbits. They sometimes came with a little snuffles issue and sometimes not. I wouldn't worry unless it develops into anything more than just snoring :)
