Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit has lost her claw

Hi all,

My 8 year old rabbit, Frankie, has just lost one of her front claws. I have stopped the bleeding with some cornflour & have given her a bit of metacam but is there anything else I should do? I'm keeping a close eye on her but have left her in peace & quiet at the moment. She's not eating yet but as it happened less than an hour ago so I'm not surprised. Thank you. x

Aw poor girl. I think they grow back, not 100% sure though. Just watch out for any infection that might start. Hope Frankie is OK.

Mylo lost one of her dew claws a couple of years after a fight. It grew back fine but when I checked her over a couple of weeks ago it was gone again! No idea how/when that happened but it clearly didn't bother her, maybe it's just more fragile than normal.

She should be fine but, of course, if she shows any signs of pain then a vet check would probably be best.

my boy had that too
no idea how he lost his but he came back from garden with a bloody front paw
i cleaned the would with dilute hibiscrub solution and the vet gave him metacam for a week.
he is fine, jus suffer a little pain on that very night but no complication.
that nail never grows back though.

the little Mikey who lost a paw nail...

Thanks everyone, I think it was more traumatic for me!! Frankie seems fine tonight and is stuffing her face again! She did give me a fright of my life though as I found her fast asleep for the first time in 7 years! Would've put my life savings on the fact that she wasn't breathing but then she sensed the apple leaves and sprung back to her feet!! Phew .
