Young Bun
So today was Acorns first trip to the vet, I am so disappointed the receptionist was really nice but that's where it ends. I am not going to name and shame but I felt like we were on a conveyor belt we were called in and I gave the vet a brief history. I asked for her nails to be cut and a general check up was she the correct weight could they do anything with her little eye (scar tissue) and should I have her spayed. The vet said she would take her to one of her to one of her colleagues who was better at handling rabbits, wildlife and rushed off saying you can either wait here or sit in the waiting room. We sat and waited in the waiting room I just assumed I would be able to stay with my pet whilst she was being seen and maybe ask a few more questions. When the vet returned she swept into the waiting room gave me the carrier and said that they couldn't do anything with her eye as it would just scar up again and that as there was some sound on her chest she must have scarring on her lungs due to the myxomatosis so she wouldn't advise spaying as the anaesthetic could be dangerous. I asked if she thought I could still try and bond her with a neutered male she said she thought not turned on her heels and went. I never did get any information about her weight and I also wanted to ask if she would now be immune to myxomatosis or should I still get her immunised against this or anything else rabbits can catch. I left with the impression that the vet thought Acorn was a wild rabbit that should have been pts from the start and that all of this was just ridiculous, how could i possibly be attached to this vermin and treat it as a pet. Well I am and I do, she doesn't know how tame she is, she comes running over for fuss purrs and binky's, she eats like a horse and is happy and relaxed. But now I can't help doubting myself am I being cruel, should I have put her to sleep....?
