Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Newspapers

I have just posted on another forum that Newspaper is okay to use as bedding - certainly I have not had any problems. But, just to be sure, can anyone clarify this for me please :)

I use it in the litter trays, and have never had any issues. It's easy to change daily, dust free unlike bedding like shavings and none of my buns have tried eating it. I wouldn't use it if my buns began to ingest it though.

Hi Cara,

I used to work in the pulp and paper industry and from the insight that gave me into the manufacturing process, I am happy to put newspaper down for my bunny or use recycled paper products for his bedding.

My only concern is perhaps the inks used when printing - as Arnold does like to nibble and tear at the paper (it's a great toy). Following some searching online, I have come to the conclusion that black inks seem to be ok, but I would avoid colour printed newspapers - just in case.

Having said the above - we used newspaper a lot for small animal bedding many years ago, and they (rabbits and guineas) all managed it into old age without too much problem or fuss.

Ems :D
