  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worried

One of my rabbits is very quiet and unlike himself this morning. He's eaten his food from last night and poo and wee all normal. However, he hasn't touched his pellets this morning. I tried dandelion and he turned his nose up. He was sat still and didn't come into his run as usual. He would move around at times but showed no interest in anything.
I'm really worried about him as I know him well and this is odd for him.
He's moulting quite bad at the moment but like I say poo all spot on, no issues at all. Eats plenty hay, minimum pellets and variety of veg.
I've checked him over and his ears and eyes are fine. No gurgling noises from stomach. But he's lethargic and looks sad and sleepy. He's not showing signs of pain. At 6.30sm he did a couple of binkeys.

Am I worrying too much. I think it's when you have a bond and know a rabbit so well it seems like he's so unlike himself. What else shall I look out for today? If he's not perked up soon I can see trip to vets this afternoon as would rather go sooner than later.

Personally I'd take him to the Vet this morning. As you have said, you know something is 'not right' so it would be advisable to consult a Vet sooner rather than later. Good luck x

You're probably right. If he's not eating his usual food it probably means he's in the early stages of tummy troubles. Keep feeding anything he will eat and monitoring poo etc. If he's not eaten anything today I would go to the vets soon.
I would usually try zantac early on which my vet gave me for these situations but I don't know if that would be appropriate for you.

You just know when something isn't quite right, don't you?

I would take him to the Vet for a checkup x

I agree with you, best to go sooner rather than over the weekend when you might be stuck with the emergency vet.

Good luck xx

Thanks so much everyone. Seems like I did panic a bit as he's absolutely fine now. God knows what was wrong with him yesterday morning. He's 11 months old and never been like that. Well by the afternoon he was eating and binkying and completely normal!!!
I'm just so relieved as was so upset in the morning
Perhaps he was very sleepy and a bit moody - weird
Thanks all for your kind words X
