Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My rabbit seems to be limping?

I have a male Flemish giant rabbit that is >1 year old. For the past few days he seems to be having trouble walking using his front paws. He walks with his front paws folded underneath his legs, thus producing a limp. I have another buck who seems to be just fine so I don't think it is an illness. He lays down with all four legs out stretched most of the day and doesn't seem to have much energy though he still eats and drinks normally. From what I've read I believe it may be a fracture but that it could heal itself. Any ideas as to what might be the cause?

Hi and welcome to RU

Has he been vaccinated recently?

Have you seen a vet, or have an appointment booked? If it's fracture there's no way it's not going to be very painful. He would need it attended to asap so it sets properly, and have PAIN RELIEF as a minimum.

Do you have a vet you can see?

Thank you :)

I will have to check with the breeder about the vaccinations. I adopted him and his brother last month and have had no issues save for this past week. I do have an appt booked with the vet though they weren't available until next week. Unless he seems to be in extreme pain, I plan on waiting to take him then. I was hoping to get tips on how to make him feel as comfortable as possible until his appt.

I would get an appointment today if he is still limping, he could be in terrible pain  he can't wait for a week like that to see the vet in my opinion.

Can you not move the appt till this week as if it's a fracture he will be in a lot of pain!!! Is he still eating okay? Or showing any signs of being quiet. Have you noticed any tooth grinding? As again these are also signs he's in pain Xx
