Cost of overnight stay at the vets

Does anyone know how much this tends to be?
It is likely that my bun will have to stay in hospital for a few nights. When I spoke to Molly she said that it costs £250 to admit him but would that cover his whole stay or just the one night?
Sorry if this is a silly question but I didn't think to ask at the time :(

Can you ring back and ask, to make sure you can manage the fees?

It's not a silly question at all. You don't want to have added worry on your shoulders ..

Yeah I will ask on the phone when they call in the morning tomorrow. It doesn't matter too much really... insurance should cover most of the costs but if they don't we have some money put aside. I just thought that if it was £250 per night that it's quite steep and our quote for the treatment might be higher than what was suggested.

Really glad you have insurance :thumb:

Hopefully they will pay out! I see no reason why they shouldn't but I always worry that they'll find a reason not to. I should find out in the morning if they will pay direct too.

Don't know if it helps, but my vets is a referral vets as well and they charge £100 per 24 hours! X

But I agree, insurance is a god send!! :)

Oh yes! Still haven't got over the £2500 I was charged for all of Storm's treatment recently!

Wowza!! But I know it mounts up so quickly! Considering the stupid vets broke Harvey's legs, but they did cover all costs and this was just over £6500 in 8 weeks!

But saying that I've had the worst luck ever with my two, and we've paid over £4,000 myself.. Thankfully Bailey is 100% insured now and for any other future bun they will also be insured! It's worth every penny xx

Our bill has an estimate of £1000-2000 but the consultation fee was £90, the stay is £250 and the ct scan is between £800-1300 and then we have the blood tests, ops and aftercare to add on too. I think it will be quite a lot over £2000 :/

My cat stayed overnight in November last year and it was £90 just for the overnight stay. Meds etc on top.

How on earth did they manage to break his legs!? £6500! Oh my goodness!!! I'm only in the second week now so I hope it doesn't mount up to that much!

Insurance was an absolute life saver (literally) with Storm because there's no way I could afford that amount of money, I'm only 18!

Is your vet a specialist? £90 sounds waayyyy too steep for a consultation unless the vet is a specialist. At my vets a consultation is only £25.

Yeah. He's been poorly for about 2 months now and as lovely as my regular vet is he just wasn't getting any better so we managed to get an emergency appointment yesterday with Molly Varga. He was being treated for EC originally but she doesn't seem to think that it's EC at all. It's more than likely an inner ear infection or some sort of absess behind the eye which will require an operation. It does seem expensive but now we are finally getting some answers so it's worth every penny. He's very poorly though :(

Oh bless him. I hope you are able to get some answers. The only time I've had one of ours in overnight it was £125 but I can't remember how that broke down into medication etc. He didn't need that much as he decided to perk up just at the moment they shut :S Of course! But that was just our ordinary vets.

 at these fees. my vet charges c£20 for 24 hours nursing, there is a higher fee for intensive nursing but it's only about £25.
