Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have just had to bring Elphie in for an emergency appointment. She has lost weight and this morning especially, she was really sluggish.

Vibes please. :(

Thank you.

We are home now, but only just. Elphie has lost a kilo in weight.

She has been sent home with sub-cut fluids, baytril, metacam and emeprid.

The quad are now indoors and she's even eating hay!!!

I'm so sorry. That's a big weight loss :(

Sending vibes and hoping the meds will help x

Lots of vibes, pleased she's eating. When Doughnut was ill and lost weight my specialist told me to add in a handful of alfalfa hay to get her weight up. She loved it and it certainly plumped her out again :)

Poor girl. Maybe she is being prevented from eating enough/being bullied by the other three Rabbits ?

I don't think she is being bullied. She always gives as good as she gets - and is definitely the matriarch in every sense. I have never noticed her not eating which is why the extreme weightloss is so shocking. But she might have been slowing down a bit - she is the oldest by a considerable distance.

It's good to see her behaving perkier but I am aware we have a very long way to go.

I hate hate hate doing the sub-cutaneous fluids. I keep stuffing up. :(

She has gone quite quiet again. She was rather enthusiastic about some fibafirst but has since gone downhill again. This is so hard.

I'm with you on that - it's not easy ...

Keep going .. topping up the vibes for her and you xx

Elphie is very bright this morning compared to yesterday. She's a trooper: eats her recovery feed like a pro, and still eating pellets and hay. :) She's tolerating the sub-qs. I think they stress me out more than her! Even so, there's a very long way to go and I need to keep weighing her to keep track of this.

Some rabbits are so so tolerant  And others are errm.............not

Pleased to hear she's doing well.
