Does anyone want to see photos from my bank holiday weekend holiday to Dublin?
Three friends and I decided to make the most of the long easter bank holiday weekend and go away to Dublin for three nights, what none of us realised on booking this was that 2016 was the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising, and celebrations would be everywhere.
One friend is a massive halloween fan, so a gravedigger tour was an obligatory must.
Same friend is also a archaeologist, with a love of greek columns and statues, so we spent lots of time looking at the statues (she and I are both wanting to go back and look at these again properly)
With the anniversary, Dublin had lots of parades and things going on, and somehow we found ourselves trapped in the middle of the practise for the Easter Sunday parade, so many people and this was only the practice. But I ended up with a bit of space in front of the GPO, and a very good view of the practise speeches. The gentleman on the right gave a brilliant speech about growing up LGBT in Ireland, and the vote on equality that they were campaigning for last year. Other speeches were in Irish and English.
A few more statues!!
And a beautiful double rainbow
Having seen the practice parades, and the shear number of people, and that fact that all of us have studied certain modules at university that mean none of us are huge fans of crowded public places, meant that we skipped watching the actual parade, and went up to Wicklow mountains instead. Oh so windy up there! Hair everywhere!
A beautiful city we would love to go back to, especially given how close it is to fly too. And we even missed most of the rubbish weather and wind in the UK.
The hotel was beautiful, and featured a surprise pipe band performance outside. (Which I have on video somewhere and will try to post later) (much to my amusement the pipe band were from wythenshawe, less than 10 miles from where my parents live and I'm moving back too.
