Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Sparky

So this morning, Sparky was behaving a bit bizarre. He kept flopping on his side trying to roll on his back and then stayed like that for a few minutes then crawled to another spot to do exactly the same.

Took him to the vets who said that his tommy felt doughy so he's and metacam and a gut stimulant via injection and we have more to give him orally.

No poops as of yet :(

Poor lad  Has the Vet advised you to syringe feed him ?

Is he drinking at all ?

I hope that he feels better soon xx

He has been drinking and weeing.

He's also managed to eat a little hay in his carry case on the way back from the vets and some kale which is his favourite, although we are aware that this can cause gassy episodes but at the moment its all he is interested in.

We have got syringe food so if we need to we can give it to him.

The vet didn't seem to think it was a mass / blockage, although I know the only definitive way to be sure is through an X-ray but we will see how it goes after he has another dose of metacam.

Sending millions of vibes for Sparky. I hope he rallies soon :D

Get him to run around, exercise can get things moving. Hopefully the vet gave you some Zantac (ranitidine) as it helps with Gas & metaclopromide to stimulate his gut.

We popped him on the bed and he had a good little run and hop around.

He has nibbled some more kale and a couple of strands of hay. He has done a couple of droppings although they are smelly mashed up things but at least its something.

We do have zantec & metaclopmide, as well as infacol.

We have just given him his evening dose of metacam & metaclopmide and he has been laying down more comfortably than he was this morning and has had several cleans.

He seems a bit better but still not 100%

Got up in the middle of the night and he nibbled some hay, kale and a couple of his nuggets.

There is poop, some of them are a bit on the small side but they are golden brown and spongy rather than being rock hard.

He's had his morning meds and is now laying down sulking

That is a better report than the one I read yesterday :thumb:

We have given in today and syringe fed him some critical care as he hasn't been eating / nibbling as much as we would like and we want to make sure he has got sufficient amounts going into him.

After giving him 10ml we popped him down and he immediately did half a dozen poops; again all golden brown and spongy. Still a bit on the small side but given he hasn't been eating his normal amounts I'm not too surprised.

When the vet checked him over yesterday she did say that he had a bit of a sharp spur on his left side but there were no tongue tears /cuts but has advised us that we will need to deal with it once he's back to his normal self. He's a really good hay eater so not sure where the spur has come from and also he's going to 9 this year so putting him under a GA is something that I am worried about.
