Extra help for rabbits in needed? What can I help more?

Nicole Mok

I'm just wondering if anyone spend extra time to help the rabbits in needed in your local area? What do you do?

I donate money for some local rabbits rescues, but I want to help more physically than just giving money out.

I tried to help that local rescues to foster the rabbits, but unfortunately, my two rabbits are unhappy about other rabbits coming to my home. Their behaviour was completely changed, even not eating... so sadly I had to give those rabbits back to the rescues and I felt guilty that I can't help...

Anything else I can help more rabbits in my local area? Would you like to share your experiences or suggestions?

I used to go out and help with the cleaning & socialisation of their more nervous rabbits.

Often they struggled to find the time to sit with the nervous rabbits & read so I'd go there a couple times a week for a few hours to read. They seemed grateful.

Its lovely that you want to do more.

How about going and helping at a local rescue, clean out hutches, nail clipping, fur trimming, collect newspapers and deliver them....I'm sure that most rescues would more than welcome a helping hand. Always so much to be done. Well done you for wanting to help.

It's a shame you can't foster rabbits, but that's how it is sometimes with our buns!

I help out in rescues. At one time I was volunteering for three at the same time  But they should be really appreciative of your help. They may also train you to do home checks in your area. I found this a great way of getting to know like minded people around my area :thumb:

Good luck xx

Thank you for your sharing and suggestions.

I do ask the rescue if they need my help at all... I did help with printing out their leaflet for their fund-raising use. However, for looking after their rabbits, I believe it's due the security reason, they don't seem feeling safe to let people know their address.. So can't help much with this.

At the same time I can only help during the weekend, but they need to go to work during the weekend, so I bet they won't leave me their key to get into their place to look after the bunnies...

I will have a look at other rescues see if they need any volunteer. There are unfortunately not many rescues in Newcastle Upon Tyne area...

It feels like that I have a heart to help but seems like there's no way I can help out... :(

What everyone else has said, there is lots of ways to volunteer even if you cannot foster. Well done for wanting to help rabbits in need :)

I have a foster set up that I use for fostering for 4 different rescues (I take one pair only at a time), I volunteer at a rescue, carry out home checks for rescues and also try to promote rescue pages via social media on the rabbit and pet groups. I also try to share posts from RWAF and other welfare agencies on social media groups too. Every little we can do helps :)
