Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

For those that don't follow the RVHD2 thread I have devastatingly lost 5 of my beautiful bunnies over the last 2 weeks to sudden death, and a further 2 just before Christmas.

As standard I am always very careful not to transfer anything between each group - I use vet grade disinfectants, antibacterial gel on my hands in between groups and each have their own dedicated dustpan/brush etc.

Currently I am also using disposable aprons and gloves, also hair kept securely tied back.

I understand if I am dealing with VHD I am fighting a losing battle but until I get the results from the PM I have to try and do everything I can

Can anyone think of anything I may of missed?

Half my rabbits live outdoors in the garden the other half in a secure garage (that is for rabbits only so no toxic chemicals fumes etc).

Hi Amy

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your rabbits. That's absolutely devastating :(

Regarding the PM results, how many of your rabbits have confirmed VHD, if you know? Did the five live in close proximity to one another?

What a nightmare for you  In addition to what you are already doing do your outdoor Rabbits live in shed/aviary type set-ups ? If so, I'd have some sort of facility to disinfect your footwear after going into the sheds/aviaries. Same when you go from outdoors to indoors.

I hope you wont have to wait too much longer for the PM results xx

Some are yes, I will have a look into something for shoes. I wear the clog type things in the garden so they should be realitively easy to disinfect or maybe disposable shoe covers.

A litter tray with a few cm of disinfectant in would work well, you could keep it in the garage and take it out to the aviarys with you to use, change the disinfectant every couple of days, that is what rescues do.

I am so so sorry for your losses :(

So sorry you've lost your bunnies :( You must be devastated.

We used to fold a towel into the tray full of disinfectant at the vets (so the entire towel is covered in disinfectant), helps stop you from slipping over when you step into it.

I can't really think of much else?

I'm not experienced enough to offer any advice, though it sounds like you've got everything well covered to me.
I just wanted to say I am so sorry to hear about your bunnies! That must be so devastating, I can't even imagine
My thoughts are with you and your other bunnies

I'm so very sorry, it's just a worst nightmare :(

I would get disposable shoe covers if you can and change them pretty much everywhere you go. Disinfecting shoes will help, but most disinfectants have a contact time of around 10 minutes so wouldn't be completely effective if you were dipping feet between environments. Please do keep us updated when you get pm results, this must be such a worrying time for you x
