Gordon is booked at the vets for an X ray UD 12/2 admitted

He's having X rays on his head and lungs, he's been on antibiotics for months for pasteurella but there's only been a slight improvement and he's just finished his last course and still has bad symptoms bless him. Nebulising doesn't seem to help either so will be dropping him off first thing before uni and picking him up after so any spare vibes would be much appreciated.

Thank you. We're on the bus, the bunnies don't seem too stressed so far. I just hope these x rays give us a way forward!

Thank you everyone ,him and beano are back home, a bit unsettled but they've been eating etc.

The X rays are being sent to the specialist and she will ring me tomorrow. But the vet went through them with me and he has an enlarged heart  It is pushing his trachea up slightly and his lungs have some excess fluid in them, as does his nasal cavities. The vet said to wait for the speacilsts opinion but he suspects heart failure which may have caused the infection. After the specialist rings the next step may be ECG and ultrasound. :(

Liz, I know the news sounds upsetting, but with good diagnostics and appropriate meds, this is not the disaster it may at first appear.

I am glad they made the discovery. Gordon needs you to be strong and I know you are :)

PM me anytime, you know that xx

Thank you. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I didn't expect it to be his heart, so it came as a bit of a shock to me really! But yes I'm glad it has given us a way forward, rather than feeling like I was getting nowhere like with the antibiotics.

Thanks again xx

I'm sorry the news wasn't better, but as you say at least you've now got a way forward. Sending vibes for Gordon. I hope you get some appropriate treatment for him soon.

I have had several Rabbits who have had Heart problems and once on the appropriate treatment they were able to have a good quality of life. Hopefully the specialist will suggest a treatment regime that Gordon can start straight away and then he'll feel a lot more comfortable.

Thank you both :)

Yes hopefully I can have further tests done as soon as possible to establish exactly what in his heart is going wrong and then sort out a treatment. I feel I should have spotted something else being amiss earlier, his weight has stayed steady but he has been eating smaller amounts and resting more so I asked for his teeth to be checked whilst he was sedated but they look fine. In hindsight he does breathe more heavily by looking at his side which I have sometimes questioned to myself but put these things down to his resp infection, but hopefully now he can be managed.

As some pulmonary oedema was noted the Specialist may feel that part of the treatment will be a diuretic. This can make a huge difference almost straight away as far as respiratory rate/effort is concerned.
