  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Peter (GI stasis)

Peter is at the vets at the moment :( This morning we noticed him flopping around a lot (so far, so normal), then he had a wee outside his litter tray which is very unlike him and went and hid under a bookcase. We couldn't tempt him out with any food... So, off to the vets. She said his blockage is only "mild to moderate" at the moment but she's going to keep him in this afternoon to give him painkillers and fluids. Trixie has gone in too to keep him company - it's very strange not having them at home!

The vet said we had spotted it early and I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's worrying all the same!

Oh dear, I know too well that sinking and worrying feeling.

Thinking of you and Peter and hoping for a swift recovery xx

How's Peter? Thumper suffers a lot with colic/stasis (can't find the reason for it) so I know what you're going through x

Thank you so much everyone. I had a call from the vet a little while ago and he's now eating again :) She's going to keep him in overnight for observation, but hopefully he's on the mend now.

I'm also really glad I had read lots about stasis before now so as soon as I saw any warning signs I took him straight to the vet!

That's great news :D

So pleased - you'll be able to sleep easier tonight now!

He's home :) And they are both, in the words of the vet, eating like pigs!!

I'm so grateful for all the expertise on this forum and the reassurance from people yesterday.

Today some strung-together poos have appeared... So maybe we have discovered the cause of the problem. Good thing is now the hair is coming out!! :D Time for a grooming session now...

Hello KatyS,
I was glad to hear Peter is home and doing well.
The strung together poos can be either the cause or the rusult of a slow gut. Either way you are right that it is a good sign that Peter can pass the hair.
