Views on pet boarding - Doughnut is going to be someone else's pet for 3 days!

I've found a lovely lady who looks after small animals. She has a lovely heated or air conditioned shed and big runs in the summer. Because Doughnut is a house rabbit and I'm away for 3 days in January, she wouldn't put her in the shed but she will stay in her house with her and have the run of downstairs. She only has one pet at a time and her house is beautiful. It will be strange thinking of Doughnut with another family, but I think this will be less stressful than being put in a hutch and just having out time in the shed rather than being able to go outside, since the weather isn't nice enough.

What does everyone else think. I hope it is less stressful for her.

I think it sounds like the perfect solution. I'm sure Doughnut will soon have her wrapped around her little paw.

Sounds great. I was worried how mine would do the first time they boarded. There was a lot of cautious exploring and 'head-bobbing' the first time, but they were fine! And every time since they've known where they were and settled straight in :)

I think this sounds absolutely lovely :thumb: Terrific!

When I've gone away for 2 nights I've had a vet nurse come in but since Doughnut can go downhill after 4 hours of eating and medicine then she would come in probably 8 hours after and I don't want her suffering on her own. At least they will notice straight away and she uses my specialist too :)

Sounds to be good.

It's a great concern having fragile rabbits, isn't it?

It is, that's my main concern. I thought leaving her for a couple of nights in her own home was better with someone coming in twice a day but since she's been poorly and it's hours later, I would hate to think of her in pain all that time and even it not being picked up if she was well again when my nurse came.

I had to make sure they would take her to my specialist and not the local vet as stated in most cases. It's hard to know what's for the best. In her own home would be best and less stressful but not if she's unwell. She's the only rabbit I've ever had so I can't imagine having a healthy rabbit and not being as stressed!

I just hope she's not frightened of a smell there as some smells frighten her, she's alright with noises! I think she will be spoilt though and if anything is wrong it will be spotted straight away and that's my main concern. Who said having animals relieves stress.

I'd prefer mine to be seen more often if they were prone to being unwell, definitely! Sounds like a great holiday for Doughnut!

Glad to hear you've found a good place in the area :thumb: Now I don't have to do daily injections I have a friend who comes and house sits :thumb: I find that's the best of both worlds as Smudge doesn't really like being away from home so I don't really like boarding them if I can help it.

I'm sure Doughnut will enjoy her holiday! :D

Ah I understand :) My first rabbit was a very fast learning curve, and caused me to be a complete stress ball for his whole life! It does get easier (were you to have any future rabbits :))

It sounds like she will have a great holiday, try and keep calm :)

I can well understand you being concerned considering how Doughnut has been. However, I think what you have found sounds absolutely ideal. She will have one-to-one attention and if the lady is concerned she will take Doughnut to your specialist. She is so cute I bet she will be thoroughly spoilt

Thanks everyone. Yes I think she will be spoilt. I said to my neighbour (who loves Doughnut and comes to see me just for her I think) I bet when she stays in the summer she'll keep her in the house rather than put her in the shed as she'll like her. Let's hope she behaves!!

Doughnut had a great time. She loved her as she followed her around and her family loved her too. I said is she one of your favourites and she said she is our favourite and when you go away in June can we have her in the house. My neighbour was right, so funny.

Oh what great news, and a relief for you!

It's worth it's weight in gold to know you can board your rabbit/s somewhere safe and lovely :)

I'm so pleased Doughnut was happy. It's such a worry but when you find a special someone to take care of our little furry friends it's priceless. I know how you feel as when I had Pixie she was always at the vet and on constant meds so when I found my boarding lady who was amazing I was so happy!!

Who wouldn't fall in love with little Doughnut, such a wee star and a real cutie too
