Rabbit urinating on bed.

Hi,I have a rabbit that lives in my bedroom I have been trying free range but I have one issue. He keeps urinating and defecating on my bed. He is litter trained for the floor so I just want a way to block off the bed? I have x pen panels but I have used all of them rabbit proofing. Any suggestions on blocking off the bed? I can't get another x pen and I don't want to use NIC panels as it costs alot to get them. (I ordered a guinea pig c&c cage)

It's quite common for buns to like using soft furnishings as a toilet.

Is he neutered? That could help him stop. Otherwise a large shower curtain spread across the bed when you are out might stop him, the cheaper and crinklier the better as he probably won't like how noisy/slippy it is and it won't encourage him to pee! If that works then once the habit is broken you may be able to remove the sheet without him starting to pee on it again!

I also find with house buns that you need to keep their litter trays spotless, my guys have no issues in punishing me if I miss a clean out by peeing wherever they feel like

No,he is not neutered I consulted a vet about it and they advised not to get him neutered due to the high risk of being under anaesthetic I don't want to risk losing him.I'll try and get a shower curtain and see if that helps.

To be honest i would be running a mile from any vet that gave that advice. It is VERY outdated!!! A good vet who is experienced with buns would not worry any more about neutering a healthy rabbit as a cat or dog.

Worryingly many vets know shockingly little about rabbits, they are actually classed as an exotic pet and some vets will have had as little as one afternoons study on them in their entire vet training! you dont really need an exotic specialist vet (although if you live near one they can be a godsend!) But a vet who has had farther training in rabbits is really a must. If you let us know roughly where you are we might be able to reccomend a good rabbit savvy vet, especially if you are in the uk.

I'm in Donegal in Ireland. My dog has to go to the vet on Tuesday so I can ask them. Is there really any benefits for a male rabbit? I know female rabbits are prone to uterine cancers(I have a male and a female, but they are housed seperately). Sorry this is an unrelated question, but how do I get a picture of my rabbit as a signature?

Males rabbits can be territorial and frequently spray urine, and aggression is a common problem. Neutered males are much happier and more relaxed. They can enjoy life without constantly looking for a mate and are much less aggressive. If carefully introduced, they can live with a spayed female or even another neutered male. Neutered males will stop spraying urine even if the operation is performed later in life.
The risk of cancer is reduced massively (relating to reproductive organs)

I'm probably missing loads, so other please add to it

I can't help with the signature =[

Neutering done by a rabbit savvy vet shouldn't be a risk to him at all, providing he is fit and healthy, and once his hormones have subsided a few weeks after, it should dramatically improve his toilet habits.

For a signature, you can use something like pizap to make a collage, then save it to photo bucket to resize it and crop it etc.
here's a link to a thread on signature sizes etc

He doesn't spray or show any aggressive behaviours but he is only 3 months old so not sexually mature yet. I don't know of any rabbit savy vet in my area, the vet that I asked was a vet recommended to me for small animals and they suggested not to neuter. I got the signature working now

Go find another vet who is confident with rabbits :D

Easier said than done lol. There is not Many vets near where I live and none of them are exotic vets, they deal mostly with livestock and dogs and cats.

Its often difficult finding a good bunny vet & many of us need to travel (me included). You might opt not to neuter your buck but I really would advise you find a decent vet so you're prepared if your bunny gets ill. Rabbits (as you may know) are complex animals to treat & no way would I want my rabbit treated by a vet who feels a simple routine procedure (neuter) is too risky.

Ah, very difficult situation for you then ..

(I love that Dylan thing in your avatar :D)

When I had a flemish giant a few years ago he got very bad ear infections and the vet knew how to treat it so maybe they would be confident with rabbits.

My vet seems to know a great deal about Rabbits, we have to get them vaccinated every year and they give them a full work over, checking ears and weighing them. My vet atm is weighing and checking my flemish's a weight again when he goes in for his booster on the 30'th. He advised to get my boy fix if we were not breeding from him. And my female.
