I am currently registered with vets4pets but have had to query a few recent diagnoses and it is a pain to travel to as I am limited to having to travel via buses. Gordon is currently undergoing treatment there so I won't be leaving at the moment unless they say they can't give him any more treatment which sounds likely as they seem to believe he can't be on penicillin for long periods of time. After researching I am torn between Abbey House in morley and Holly House in moortown.

If anyone has any experiences of either vets would you be able to offer any experiences? I am leaning towards Abbey House as it is easier to travel to and in the summer I am planning to move to morley and this vets is likely to be a short walk away, which would be great - no more carting bunnies on buses! And obviously easy to get to in case of emergency but I've read better reviews about holly house so feel I shouldn't go with abbey house just out of convenience.

Thanks in advance

We're with holly house vets. We've only ever had to use them for health checks and vaccinations though so I'm not a lot of help there, but they're very thorough. We go to them because I think camp nibble recommended them to us as they're good with rabbits.
We've always been pleased with them though. Sorry not a lot of help

Ooh, another Leeds rabbit person. I haven't used either of the vets in question, I know Esupi uses one of them and will I'm sure be able to recommend further. Out of interest, is the Vets4Pets you are using the Birstall branch?

Camp Nibble do recommend Holly House - we got a card in the adoption pack. I heard Abbey House are ok with basics but know their limitations (a good thing in my book ) & will happily refer on. I've no personal experience of either though

Thank you for the replies

No it's the one on Easterly road as the only one I could travel to, I feel bad for thinking of leaving but it is largely due to the travelling.

I have used the Morley Abbey House vets lots of times for emergency cover - they aren't our regular vet. To be honest, I've had very mixed experiences there and would say as with any practice it really depends which vet you get. Most have been fine, a couple I would have no confidence in at all. There was one I haven't seen for a while who I really liked who would say straight up if she was in over her head and would advise who to see next. I know Trudi Pardhoe at Abbey House is recommended where rabbits are concerned, but I haven't ever come across her - I don't think she's based generally at the Morley branch, though obviously the other vets do have access to her. I think it would be different if they were your regular vet compared to an emergency situation as there's more time to make sure you're seeing the right people. They have good opening hours - 'til 7 pm in the evening and both Saturday and Sunday surgeries.

Holly House I don't know much about other than that Camp Nibble use them. I keep meaning to switch to them and there are two reasons I haven't so far:
1. My current vet isn't massively knowledgeable, but is absolutely honest about what he can and can't do and more than willing to refer elsewhere and then learn from the experience. I trust him.
2. For anything complex I've been using Crab Lane in Harrogate - initially because I was referred to FHB and subsequently because I like the other vets there. It is a pain to get to though.

I do know Holly House's emergency fee is a lot higher than Abbey House's (~£180 rather than £120), though not sure if that would be an important factor.

Lots of Leeds based rat people recommend Holly House. Some use Morley Abbey for routine stuff but in the event of a problem it's always Holly House for exotics.

I use Abbey House, they are brilliant! I go to the Clekheaton branch but was transferred to the emergency hospital in Morley with Theo when he was very ill and they were brilliant with him too. When my guinea pig was ill I went to the emergency hospital in Morley as well and again they were fab and rushed Lily straight in as soon as I arrived as she was on deaths door when I arrived.

I used to be with holly house when I lived in leeds, they were brilliant.

I can't comment on abbey house as I've not used them - they may easily be just as good.

Thank you everyone for the replies. It is a tough decision as I know people will have different experiences with different vets at each practice. I don't want to go against the majority who have used holly house but I think I am leaning towards using abbey house, as the reviews I've seen seem to be good experiences. Although its good to know holly house is an exotic specialist if needed.
