  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

White at edge of eye?

gracieh

New Kit
Perhaps I am being paranoid after the illness of my two other bunny's, but over the past two days I have noticed a strange white stuff at the edge of Blossom's eyes. It is not the lens of her eye, just in the corners, and it looks a bit gunky and thick - kind of like the sleep gunk that humans get in their eyes. It kind of looks like I could scoop it out carefully with my finger but I won't do that, of course.
Wondering if anyone knew what this was likely to be?
I'll probably take her to the vets tomorrow as she needs a teeth check up anyway, just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Depending on the colour of her could it be fluff??

I once took Cookie to the vets and mentioned it to him saying I was wondering if it was her third eyelid damaged - he hooked it out instantly and it was just some fluff that had gone into her eye and mangled up a bit where it was wet  Hopefully it will be something like that for your bunny too xx

What you are seeing could be the rabbit's third eyelid. Have a look here and see if looks anything like what you're noticing?

Took her to the vets today and she's perfectly healthy! It must have just been her third eyelid showing more prominently for some reason, phew! Thank you for your help! :D
