  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Willow was spayed on fri at abot 10 am we got het home at 4pm , however im worried as when i looked today at her wound its got a small sore but like shes tryed to nibble the glue. Is this ok , shes eating pooping and binkining and gets her med if shes sore should i be worried as iv only seen her once do that and not since ?

One quick investigation of what on earth has happened to her is probably ok. Are you able to check the wound? If you can check that she isn't damaging herself a few times a day and keep an eye on her to make sure she isn't worrying at it she should be fine!

Is she still on pain relief? You say she gets meds if she is sore but how do you make that decision? Personally id be giving her pain relief as a matter of course a spay is a big op and if she is in pain it will lead to her worrying at it which could obviously lead to her hurting herself by opening the wound up and allowing infection in.

If she was spayed on Friday has she had her post op check up yet? The vet should be able to reassure you as to how well she is healing.

Well not had chech up yet but all looks healed over bar the 1 spot she pivked on fri its still more pink than rest but not swollen. She gets that in morning if she will take it as if i mix it with stuff she out rite refuses it lol so its syrine feed or none as shes decided after m8xing it with oinapple juice.. bananas and nugget mush none touched.

Obviously we cant say for certain if the wound is healing OK as we cant see it. But from what you say it sounds as though there is not much to worry about. The best way to get more re-assurance if you remain concerned is to get the Vet to take a look. At least that would put your mind at rest :)

Can you pop along and just show the vet nurse at the surgery? Just for reassurance? You will not have to pay a vet consult fee and she may tell you if you should bathe it etc
