  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi all, haven't been on here for a while. I just wanted to ask for your support today. Smokie's arthritis has been getting worse and over the weekend she has gone downhill, and has lost all interest in food. We are on painkillers, Zantac, critical care and fibreplex. I look in her eyes and she is tired (she is nearly 11) and she hates all the fuss. We are ringing the vets at 8, I think it's time for her.

Oh bless her, I am sorry to hear that she is struggling now. I am sure that whatever decision you make for her will be what is in her best interests. I always believe that a Rabbit will tell us what they want if we look into their eyes. The eyes really are the windows to the soul.

Please let us know how today goes, it sounds as though it may be an extremely difficult and emotional one for you.

I'm sorry to hear that Smokie is feeling so poorly. :( I am thinking of you and your dear bunny today and holding your concerns in my heart. ((((((((((Hugs)))))))))) xxxx

Thanks guys, she has eaten a little on her own, spoke to the vet and we have agreed to give her til midday before we re-update the vet.

If you give her a heatpad/snugglesafe that may help her sore bones and it'll be comforting too xx

I am with you today, and I understand how you feel.

I pray you'll get peace with your decision, knowing how much you love Smokie xx

Still here! Sorry, she picked up a little, ate some grass and a basil plant before vet rang back. So we kicked on with the critical care and since then we have had a wee and 2 very small poos. I think we will need to play it by the hour, but so far looking brighter and a bit more my normal stubborn Smokie.

So pleased to hear that Smokie has picked up a bit now. I really hope that she can continue to do so xx

Thinking of you. It is always such a difficult decision, but glad she has picked up a bit.
