Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ec hutch cleaning

beki

Mama Doe
Today was day 21 of lapizole. I have been poorly with a sickness bug and unable to clean the hutch out. Is it a problem if it waits a day or two? My husband now has the same bug so he can't clean the hitches either (not that I would trust him to do a thorough job anyway)

I'm going to use a steam cleaner.

I had also noticed from another thread that bunnies hay should be moved so they don't wee on it and eat it. Betsy doesn't wee on her hay but Bertie has 2 hay boxes, one that he just sits in and eats and the other that he uses as a litter tray and eats. How would I go about stopping him eating this hay?

Just steam clean the hutch as soon as you can. None of us can do the impossible. I do hope that the sickness bug resolves soon.

Re the hay, can you use hay racks for hay and a different type of substrate for litter trays ?

I am sure that the steam cleaning you are doing will suffice!

Regarding eating the possibly contaminated hay ... i use straw in litterboxes on these occasions, and a small hay rack (sometimes attached to the side of the litter tray for indoor buns) so they can pick off that. It doesn't stop hay falling into the litter tray and them eating it, but it does minimise it.

Good luck xx
