Non Straw Bedding in Bulk

CatEdwards129

Young Bun
Hey,

I am looking for a fiber bedding instead of straw but I am going to need a lot of it. I did think I might use the 'Back to Nature' Pellets as this is whats in his litter box but wold prefer something softer. I wondered about wadding, but worried he would eat it, and that can't be healthy

I've had a look online and haven't managed to find what I'm after, hoping someone here might know. The biggest bag I have found is 500g and I don't know if that would be enough to cover the bottom of his cage / hutch

We are struggling with my partners allergies at the moment, and the rabbit, hay, and straw are all too much for his senses at once. Any help on where to get these from would be brilliant.

Thanks, Cat

Have a look at fitch recycling, i used to get fitch and it was fab but other people may give u some more suggestions later x

Why not use newspaper and hay? Much cheaper (if you know people who could donate their used newspapers to you).

Horse supply places often have alternative bedding / litter and it will usually be in much bigger bales than pet shops.

There is a shredded cardboard available which can be used instead of wood shavings / litter.

I've not used any of these, but others on here may be able to tell you more about them. I've not price checked them - these were random large bales.

If your rabbit is indoors, there is also the option of Vetbed (like a fake fur carpet or bedding for animals - available in different lengths off a roll), or just cheap fleece fabric which is really easy to wash and dry as needed.

I use newspaper a lot - but I would avoid shredded paper - it gets wet very quickly and can get tangled round legs.

Thanks guys, we can't have straw. Didn't realise until yesterday we are both alergic. So that went this morning and as a temporary measure have given him 'back to nature' for today.

Our old Bun used to get sore hocks from the carpet and floors in our house, so I want something super soft to keep his feet nice.

He is a digger so will give Megazorb or Fitch a go next, whichever is the cheapest.

Thanks x
