  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Metacam dog 10ml

Hi I need some expert advice from you bunny lovers, I've had my baby boy paysley for 4 months I got him from a reptile center I was going to get a baby bearded dragon and fell in love with him straight away and bought him in the spot I've surprised myself on how well I'm doing with his care but for some strange reason his keeps getting ill my vet thinks it's because of were I bought him from reptiles and rabbits can contract the same illnesses confused why keep them together we'll cut my long story short his been vaccinated and was given treatment for mites he also had fleas when I got him and now again his got sore toe nails it's like a crusty scab that covered his nails and the vet has treated him with metacam dog 0.2ml 2 times daily with food and 0.7ml of baytril once a day now my poor bunny has scabs at the end of his ears his going back the the vets at 5pm today I just wanted some advice from people that may have had this problem

Hello, Sorry Paysley has got poor health. It sounds like you need to find a more rabbit savvy vet. Metacam is a painkiller and Baytril is an antibiotic. If bunny has mites he needs an injection of Ivermectin. You can't keep on like this. The worse bunny gets the longer it will take to get him better. Lots of vibes for your bunny.

I wonder whether you may get more response if you amend your title? At present it doesn't really say what your thread is about.

PS Also, it would be better in Health.

I would suggest that the Vet takes some scrapings from the lesions for histopathology. It may be a fungal problem rather than a bacterial one.
