Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

update on Winston

wench

Young Bun
I am cautiously optimistic on Winston. After his poor coat condition, loss of weight and lethargy we think we have now got to the bottom of it. The vet advised it could be either kidney issues, liver issues or arthritis. So I decided to go with treating arthritis first as that was the easiest and least stressful for Winston. (being an eight year old rescue bunny leaving him at the vets for blood tests and x rays was never a realistic option). We have altered Winston and his bunny wife's house to make it all on one level, eliminating any ladders and climbing. He is also now on Science Selective food for senior bunnies as it contains Glucosamine for his joints. Surprisingly after only two weeks he has already put weight on, his coat condition has improved and appears an all round happier bunny. We even had some bunny hops on his run in the garden today. I did get some Metacalm from the vets but have stopped short of giving this to him at the moment due to his dramatic improvement. Naturally his bunny wife Crystal is also a happier bunny.

That sounds to be very encouraging news. When you posted for advice my first thought was 'arthritis'. I really hope that Winston continues to do well xx

It's really good to know that Science Selective Senior has this included. I always recommend Glucosamine, as it works well in (some) humans and my rabbits have done well on it too :D

I hope all continues to go well! xx
