Lump removal

Hi all,

So my bun is having surgery next week to remove a lump. I noticed it last week as I was laying on floor playing with him. It's on the side of his neck. He seems ok other than that but I took him to the vet anyway yesterday for a check up. The vet said it was deep but moveable and elongated and he would recommend removing it and sending it for analysis. Looking back at the notes I had reported a lump in the same place back in April. I vaguely remember but to be honest, I'm always at the vets with one of my animals I didn't remember until he had said.

He did say he didn't think it was a tumour but how would he know this so early? Leaves me wondering what else it could be. I just hope he picks up after the anaesthetic. It makes me worry so much that he will get stasis again due to this [emoji17]

The lump may be a simple 'fatty lump', I expect that the fact the Vet thought that it felt to have a 'stalk' is why he recommended having it removed. Morse had 3 very similar sounding lumps removed during his lifetime. One was on his neck, another on his back and the last one in his dewlap by his chin. All turned out to be just fatty tissue. He was simply a lumpy Bunny !

I wont say 'dont worry' as of course we all do when one of our Rabbits needs surgery. But the chances of the lump being anything 'nasty' are slim compared to the chances of it just being completely benign. Do let us know how the op' goes next week.

I agree with your vet - removing the lump and sending it off for analysis is the way to go. That's what I would do.

To be honest it's really difficult to say what it is (or your vet would probably have made a guess?) but the fact that it seems not to be 'attached', and is moveable, is a very good thing :D I know this from experience with my own rabbits!

I agree the anaesthetic is always a worry, but hopefully your vet can manage it so that he comes around quickly. And of course starts that all important eating and pooing! :thumb:

Thank you for your replies. It helps to hear other people's similar stories. These pesky animals are such a worry. X

Oh, one more thing. I mentioned to the vet if it would be beneficial to check his teeth while he was under. Do you think this is a good idea? I just figured it couldn't hurt to give them a little look.

Definitely worth a proper look at teeth when he is under, I would have done the same. Best wishes for the lump removal when the time comes xxx

As Newbabybuns says .. definitely a good idea to have a look and deal with the teeth if necessary!

Evening all! So diesel had his surgery today. The vet thinks it looks like a fatty lump, possibly caused by all the injections he's had, like scar tissue. Anyhow, it's being sent off for analysis. Diesel is home, still quit woozy and very sleepy. I hope he picks up soon! [emoji17][emoji1]
