Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Tips for helping rabbit with back leg/ hip injury

Hi,

Daisy seems to have injured herself and is hopping funny and sits with splay legs at the back. We have taken her to the vet several times and both her back legs still have feeling in them and there is an area around her hips that causes her pain when pressed. The vet is happy that she still has a good quality of life at the moment and she seems to have improved her hopping since last week.

We are still not entirely sure of the cause of the injury- she lives in the house herself so it wasn't caused by another animal. We certainly never saw her jump/ twist awkwardly either. She is 6.5 years old and a French lop so it could be linked to age.

Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to help Her? She is currently on metacam for the pain and the vet is going to see her again in a week. Is there any natural products I can give to help Her as well? Also does anyone know where I could get a super shallow litter tray? The one we have has quite high sides and I don't want her making herself worse jumping in and out it.

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura

I'm so sorry I missed this first time around!

How is she getting on now? I assume she had her vet check up? Is she still on Metacam?

There are always natural products that can help bunnies in all situations. But a diagnosis/prognosis from your vet would be useful first.

I hope things are OK? x

After going back and forward to the vet at least once a week for several weeks her legs continued to get worse and she also lost control of her bladder/bowels, and was continuing to lose weight. We sadly got her put to sleep last week. She was 6.5 years old which I think is pretty good for a rabbit of her size. Thank you to everyone on here who has given me medical advice over the years
