  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Third eyelid. I am abit freaked out, is this normal?

When I gave Sølve his nightpellets I did as I do as usual, petted his head while he was eating, and I noticed something that freaked me out! His third eyelid kept coming out over his eye a bit! And it only did so while I petted him, and when I stopped it receded to normal position. Still I am pretty freaked by this and I wonder if it is normal? And why did he do that? Was the petting and pellets at the same time a bliss overload? Do any of your bunnies do this while petted?

After he where done eating he flopped down quite happily I might add, so does not seem to be in any distress...

Sorry to hear you're worried ... Here's some info on third eyelid, you may have already seen:

If it's quite pronounced, or you're worried, or there's any change in behaviour, do go and see your vet.

Thank you for the quick reply! :D

I have seen no change in behaviour, he eats plenty of hay and wolfs down his pellets. And drinks a normal amount I would say. droppings are good to. He had been binkying and running around playing happy as ever just before his night feeding. He did flopp down to sleep just after I saw it so he might have been tired?

Thank you for the link, I wil be sure to keep a close eye on him and call my vet if he seems off in any way.
