Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

CT Scans

Just wondering how much anyone on here has forked out for a CT scan??

I don't think my vets actually have one so would need to get a referral to another local vet who can do any scan that is required, its nothing urgent that can't be put off for now so just curious at the moment about costings

When a rabbit CT scan was mentioned as an option to me a couple of years ago, it was via a specialist referral and was several hundred pounds (£500+). Can't remember the actual amount quoted, but it wasn't something I was prepared to pay for under the circumstances. If it had been covered by insurance, I might have looked into it more, although I don't think it would have changed the treatment or outcome for that rabbit.

Scrappy had a CT scan earlier this year at the RVC hospital in Potters Bar for her tooth roots (so just a head scan). The total cost was £290. That included the scan, hospital care and medication. I opted for that as apparently it wasn't that much more than an x ray would have been and the scan would give more detail than the x ray. I had to have a consultation with them beforehand and that alone cost £150.

Thanks for the responses I was thinking around the £300 - £350 mark but that was just a guess.

I haven't even asked my vets if they have one or not, I was going to check when they go in for vaccinations.

I know a new purpose built vets in the town centre has a shiny new scanner so if my vets don't have that facility I'm going to see if it's possible to get the scan done at that vets I'd sooner not have to travel miles just to get a head scan done
