Sulking Bunny

bunnybannanas

Mama Doe
I'm quite worried about my bunny.

I have a house bunny. She's a year and a half old and a house bunny.

I've had her since birth - myself and my old flat mate had her parents.

Anyways, I have had an extremely close bond with her and when we left the flat, my old flat mate took her mum and dad and I took her (her and her parents never got on. To the point that we couldn't have her in the same room when they were out or she would go nuts and vice versa). I moved back in with my mum and dad (and tortoise) - my parents are retired and she has an amazing relationship with all of us. The vets told me not to get another bunny due to the close bond.

Yesterday was a normal day. We had a BBQ so I took her outside and popped her in her pen whilst we got the garden ready. Then I took her out (I don't like her being in a cage when I'm home) and let her play in the garden. Although she's quite inquisitive, she wanders off and then comes back for cuddles and to make sure that I'm there.

Normally when it starts to go cold, I take her back in and we have some snuggles then she has the reign of the house. We had cuddles and then I put her down and she just ran off and hid in the corner. She is a really playful bunny but wouldn't come near me - almost as if she was sulking.

I tried to bribe her with some parsley but she just gave me a dirty look. Then I tried to bribe her with a shreddie (she loves both as treats) and she glared at me and turned her back to me!

I came down at 3am to check on her as she wouldn't go near anyone all night and I'm a bit of a worry wart like that.

When I woke up this morning I came straight to check on her and she hasn't touched her food, water, hay or parsley. I opened the cage and took her out of the cage and gave her a cuddle. She jumped out of my arms (we were on the floor) and ran behind the sofa where she has been ever since. She still won't eat anything and she backs off when I go to stroke her.

It's really not like her and I don't understand why she's sulking. Has anyone else experienced this and what can I do?! She's not accepting bribes and I'm missing having cuddles!!

Hi,

Is it possible she has eaten something in the garden Thats made her feel unwell?. Has she had her teeth checked? This can often be the first sign a bunny is in trouble health wise which could lead to gut stasis.. The guys may be slowing down , leaving her to feel rubbish.

If there's no eating or poo output, please seek immediate vet advice, it could be critical..

If there is eating and just huffing, perhaps something has worried her in the garden or Theres been a loud noise or she's sensed a predator, cat, bird etc?..

Fee x

She didn't eat anything in the garden. I was watching her the whole time. She did a bit of burrowing and kicked off at the usual plant (it gets in her way) but aside from that she just binkyed everywhere and got made a fuss of when the family got here.

I out fresh bedding in her cage when she was outside and I can see that she has pooped a little bit I just can't see that she has eaten anything.

There were no out of the ordinary noises yesterday. I am more nervous about her being out because of birds than she is!!

I just can't think what's wrong with her.

Sending lots of vibes.. But I agree with fee if she hasn't eaten since last night, she needs to see a vet urgently as she may be in pain!

Unfortunately rabbits that don't eat, can go down hill very quickly! :(

But hope she picks up soon x

I've just got behind the couch with her (really really comfy [emoji19]) and we're now at the stage where she will come near me but if I touch her she backs into the corner.

I've told her if she eats then I'll cancel the appointment. The only response I got was a bit of box flung at me. Guess she's on hunger strike!! X

I think it's good you're taking her to the vet, she may be perfectly fine and just having a strop, but you can just never tell. Is she spayed by the way, at around that age Bunbuns started to get funny with me, she would have bigger stops and stuff like that, after I had her spayed she got better again and was happier again. though it wasn't until I got her a little friend she really started to pick up. It started at the time she was about a year and a half too, so who knows. may be something similar, but I know how easy it is to worry about them, they do that well, making us worry. let us know how you get on and sending vibes.

I got her spayed when she was about 6 months she's always been loving towards me but she was really stroppy with my flatmate so I got her spayed to calm her down.

I hope it is just a strop but best to be on the safe side. I'm still behind the couch with her. She's just lying next to me on my arm (and reading this!) she keeps closing her eyes as if she wants to sleep but then opening them really quickly.

She has a sore tummy but they aren't sure why. She flinched when the vet touched it. The vet gave her some painkillers and also some other medicine and told me to make sure she at least drinks. She wouldn't drink out of her bowl or the bottle but let me syringe water into her mouth.

I had to blend nuggets for her and syringe those as well. She ate a piece of parsley before though herself so I'm sleeping downstairs to make sure she continues to eat.

Fingers crossed she will be better tomorrow!!

So today I got home and discovered that she hadn't eaten at all.

I've blended some more food and I'm trying to syringe it to her but she keeps letting it dribble out of her mouth and more is ending up on her fur than down her throat. I'm trying to give her a syringe every half an hour so I don't stress her out. I hope she's better in the morning or we're going back to the vets!!

Thank you. I'm taking her to the vets tomorrow morning. I've syringed about 3 or 4 syringes worth of blended for into her tonight but she won't take anymore bless her.

So after all this and being told she has stomach problems, we went back to the vets yesterday to be told her stomach is fine but she has a fractured jaw!!

She is now with a bunny specialist and is having an operation tomorrow. Hopefully she will be home tomorrow night [emoji174][emoji174][emoji174]

Poor little love. My little man broke his jaw (at the vet's bizarrely), it took 3 vets to diagnose him correctly! He did't have surgery, they clicked his jaw back into place - ouch! but we had to syringe feed him for a month. Hope she makes a speedy recovery.

She's had an operation which thankfully went well but she's still at the vets today. She's been syringe feeding her but although she's eaten loads, she hasn't pooed so the vet took her home last night to check on her and is doing the same tonight so hopefully I should be able to get her tomorrow!
