Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Dental surgery and a broken bone. 😕🐰

Hi guys

Somehow Kovu has managed to break a bone in his leg. He was limping a little so the vet decided to X-ray him while she did some dental work.
He's now on regular pain meds and strict "hutch rest" which he hates.

He was a little quiet last night but we put that down to still being groggy from the anestetic. However today he's still not quite himself and isn't eating.

The vets are closed now. Any advice or Info?

He's had dental work before and was straight back to his mischievous self when we collected him from the vets.

Also he's coming up for 4 years old. Is it common for rabbits to need regular dental surgery at this age?

Thanks

Hi chelsie,

Have they not splinted his leg up or even suggesting operating? He may well still be in quite a lot of pain!

I had a rabbit break his legs, they were operated on & pinned and was on high doses of pain relief! Have you tried tempting with herbs & has he poo'd? X

She said due to it only being a small break a cast would do more harm than good ( in terms of rubbing his skin) and she decided pins would be too risky in terms of longer time under anestetic ( she rang me post dental surgery to tell me the results of the X-ray, so pins would have ment a second anaesthetic which she didn't recommend .. She said it should heel with about two weeks rest. Not a perfect heal but a small callous which will not effect him.

Do you think that's correct?

Xx
