  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blood in poo!

I've just discovered a string of bloody mucous in my rabbit's poo! He's been eating and pooing normally and has just been to the vet today-does anyone know what the cause is? And if it's an emergency??

What was the reason for the Vet consult today ? Did the Vet take a rectal temperature ?

I would give the Vet a ring and let him/her know what has happened subsequent to the appointment and ask for their advice. There are numerous possible causes for blood/mucous in or around fecal matter. It is always something that needs to be bought to the attention of a Vet ASAP.

I've just been writing on your other thread

As you seem to have a very good vet, I would give them a ring and explain what's going on with your rabbit. It's best they decide whether you should bring him in or not.

Today was meant to be just a weigh in to see how he's been doing on meloxicam and he was also administered some fluids.
Ok thank you-I'll give them a call tomorrow because they're closed now
