  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sneezing

I know I posted about this a few weeks ago about this and yes I know I am a bad mummy for not taking Emmy to the vets (life got in the way in a big way) but I'm worried about her tonight. A few weeks ago she sneezed and there was some discharge and it didn't happen again until tonight. Now I WILL be calling the vets in the morning but I am worried about her. What could it be?

It could be the start of an upper respiratory tract problem, an allergy, a sign of Dental problems involving the tooth roots, amongst other things.

Good luck at the Vets.

You are *not* a bad mummy!

It could simply be an allergy, which is much more common this summer and probably due to the heat. It could be a bout of 'snuffles' and would respond to antibiotics.

Many infections that people think may be upper respiratory turn out to be nasal based and not worrisome at all.

Keep an eye if it happens again. Sometimes a little bit of white appears on the end of my bunny's nose - my vet doesn't worry about this :D

I hope your vet gives you good advice

Jakes just finished a course of baytril for sneezing, although my vet didn't seen concerned. Did you see the colour of the discharge? The vet told me if it was clear she wouldn't worry but if its white thats a sign if bacteria being present?
