Thumpy's first experience at free roaming.

Today it was so nice and we have now been in our new house for a couple months almost. The buns have been homed in so I thought I would let belle and Thumpy out for a free roaming. Belle was straight out exploring her new garden but Thumpy was so nervous. He was kept in a hoarders house and had never had his own space, he thought he was in heaven coming here, having a pen, then a bunny wife and a hutch and run, he was delighted. But being offered the garden to explore was so scary for him. He wouldn't venture out. Will he ever build up the courage?

I think he just needs time. He watched Belle with keen interest. He even came out onto the step. The door was open for a couple hours but he didn't go for it. He looked out a couple times. I think it's just the sheer vastness of space. Hopefully he will pluck up courage one day, all paws crossed 💓💓💓

Yes I will keep giving him the chance, it must seem like a big scary world to him..... I will post updates if I have any.

If he is really reluctant you could put him out and watch his reactions. He might just need you to do that. :)

I did do that with Binx, he was a free roamer but all alone with no interaction from anyone, so when I took him home he loved being in the house and a part of the family, when it came to spring he was so scared he wouldn't go out. So I put him out and within an hour he was dancing all over the garden 😂. So I might just try it with Thumpy.

Aww bless. He'll be ok eventually I'm sure. My rescue bun was kept in a tiny cage with about 20 other buns before we got her, so when she came to us as a free range house bunny it took her ages to get used to the idea she had the whole place and only stayed in their bunny room. But she got there eventually :)
 
Hes gorgeous, it will take time but he will get there, my bunny Tia was just the same, now, can't get her back in sometimes! she loves her free roam time she runs and jumps and binkies, comes upto us to chase her, comes nudges us to make sure we're watching her (when we got her she couldn't jump properly, and couldn't periscope couldn't / wouldn't jump onto anything and would run away if we looked at her). It took a lot of time but she got there and your gorgeous bunny will too :)

could you gradually increase the space? so fence of a small section by the hutch, then increase it daily? he might need to see your other bunny / you close by to build his courage (this is what we did with tisa) x
