An Update on Lord Herbert's Health 'Issues' and Lots of Photos

Jack's-Jane

Wise Old Thumper
Against all the odds Herbs is doing really well (*touches wood and hopes not to be tempting fate *). We have managed to find a diet that has brought about an incredible improvement in his GI tract. He has not had any episodes of huge soft mishaped fecal poo for at least two months. He has gained weight, going from 2.4kg to 2.6kg. Also, to our amazement his heart rate is now normal as opposed to being ridiculously slow. We have no idea how or why as he was not on any medication for his heart. He had his vaccination 10 days ago and he had no adverse effects from it.

Whilst we still do not know what the future holds, at the moment aside from his carefully controlled diet and of course his beloved Peppermint Tea and Avipro Plus cocktails he is not on any treatment at all. For anyone interested these are all part of Herb's diet:

Unlimited baled hay
Grass
Readigrass
Dried forage (blackberry leaf, ginko leaf, hawthorne leaves, hazelnut leaves, raspberry leaves, walnut leaves)

And he has fresh herbs daily, well Herbs would wouldn't he !!

Lovely photos, i think I may invest in some peppermint tea. Do you give it to him warm or cold?

Isn't that interesting! How much Readigrass do you give him and is it the Friendly type?

He has a handful of the Equine Readigrass daily. At the moment his calcium levels are not of concern hence he is also able to have the Lucerne Chaff. Who knows, maybe the amount of calcium he has in this diet has played some part in improving his health. No idea how that might be though.

 It's such an odd disease, isn't it. Autumn had a check up recently (although he's now end stage and on a max out of meds) and the vet just said 'hes in good shape... er... I don't know what you're doing... but keep doing it!'.

I'm pleased for you both that Lord H is thriving on his diet :)

It's a complete mystery. I am glad to hear that Autumn is coping at the moment.

Awww this is stellar news! I'm so very happy for both of you. :)
I wonder if the gingko has something to do with the heart rate. Isn't it a bit of a stimulant?
I often enjoy a cuppa of mint tea but I don't get quite the results you have with Lord H. :D Those pictures are gorgeous!
((((((((((Huge hugs and noserubs where appropriate)))))))))))))) xxxxxxx

Wonderful news. He's so lucky to have you as an owner, I can't see that most people would be able to investigate and support him as well as you do xxxx
