  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cream for sore ears?

MandyLouise

Young Bun
My girl is currently battling ear mites, I've taken her to the vets and got all the medicines etc and it's nearly all better now but I was wondering is it ok to use a cream like Aloe Vera just outside her ear? Where she's been scratching it looks really sore and I was hoping I could use something to soothe it but want to make sure it's safe first. :)

I got a really nice aloe vera one from p@h with lavender in which didn't irritate them when on. In fact they didn't seem to notice it but the sore area did heal

I'll be shot down in flames for suggesting it , but I agree, I would use aloe vera in preference to sudocrem. My vet uses sudocrem, but it has chemical nasties in it that I don't like my buns ingesting. Natural aloe vera, calendula or arnica would be safe to use as they can be safely ingested.

My Vet at Twickenham Vets advices using Aloe Vera Gel, she uses it on one of my Honary Neices (her daughter!) too so she must think it is good. My Vet recommended the Forever Living product, but there are many other makes available :)
