Out of curiosity

I have never had rabbits that have had the chop before, I did have a doe many years ago but she wasn't spayed. I have vouchers from the blue cross to help with this because it was RAW(Rabbit Awareness Week)and I happened to apply. I was just wondering what the cost is to spay and neuter a Rabbit. All my cats are Neutered and Spayed but is it more expensive because they are Rabbits?

xx

It varies from vet to vet. Charlie cost £55 but it was nearly 7 years ago that he was done.

Oh ok, thats great, i think its about £47 for a male neuter in cats and I paid about £70 for my female cats so it works out not too expensive then and around the same. I thought maybe if they were classed as exotics it was more complex hence higher price ;) xx

about £80-100 at ours I think, can't remember, but that includes all meds etc and 2 follow up consultations

Winston cost £114 for his neuter but that was because he had a retained testicle so it was a bigger op. He also had to stay in a bit longer than usual and that included various fluids and critical care he was given and metacam to bring home so I didn't think the cost was too bad really! Their standard neuter costs £56 at the vets I use and £76 at the vets I will be moving him to.

Yeah it definitely varies depending on location and practice.

Most places I've seen to be slightly higher than a cat, least with females and between £45-120 (was most expensive), sorry I feel bad but I cannot figure if it's for a lassie or lad - so that price range is from boy to gal price ranges.

To add today at the vets I happened to notice for example a female cat was around £65 and the rabbit spay was £99

At my current vets (vets4pets) it costs £60 for a neuter and £75 for a spay, at my old vets I can't remember how much I paid for Boris but I think it was around £60 but for Beano I paid nearly £90 for her spay.

Just had my 4 girls spayed last week at Pets at Home Camborne. It cost £79 each but I got 10% off for quantity! My boys were castrated about 2 months ago and cost £59 each (I think) minus 10% again. They are very good vets, very rabbit savvy, also good with dogs and people! I would recommend them and not too far from you.

Great replies so far, so thanks guys. It's good to know these prices because it should be added onto the Rabbit before deciding and choosing one but Burberry was a bit of a "Dump on mum" kind of thing. I love him very much and wouldn't be without him but if I did have a choice then i would have only chosen to keep to two Rabbits (We have already purchased our tiny baby currently 6 weeks old and he is not home yet). I will defo go to a rescue home in the future but already chose my two before becoming a member. xxxx

I am with companion care in Truro also the truro pets@home. Hi from Bodmin

My vets charge £112 for a rabbit spay. It is with a rabbit specialist though - Craig Hunt - and includes overnight stay in a staffed hospital to ensure they are eating well before discharge, a painkilling injection and 5 days metacam for home use.

I could have used the PAH vets where it would have been £60 but felt more comfortable using a rabbit vet.

Edit forgot to say friends think I'm nuts!

I will keep this in mind and see which vet offers the best care. Like i said i do have some vouchers to help with the actual cost of the op but a high level of care is equally important. I am glad I only have one female though. xx

I think it's very much horses for courses, and expensive doesn't necessarily mean good and cheap bad, although it might do, of course! Some bunnies will recover more quickly and easily at home in their familiar surroundings, but others might be better staying in to be observed, especially if the owner is inexperienced. My vet is a vets4pets practice inside PAH and while she's not a bunny specialist, they see lots of bunnies and she's perfectly competent. I get 3 days gut stimulant and 5 days metacam post-op for the £75. So to the OP I would just recommend doing some research and finding a vet who is good with bunnies and who you are comfortable with.

Hi from St. Agnes! I thought you lived near Penzance, don't know where I got that from! My daughter takes her 2 dogs to Truro Companion care and lots of my friends say Tom the vet is very good.

Yes, I did ask at the PAH vets if they see many rabbits and they said they do. Apparently they offer free initial vacs and talk about the benefits of neutering at the initial appointment so they do a lot of neutering surgery on bunnies. They were quite impressive actually but I then visited the other practice and read up on Craig and was totally sold. I worried a lot about the surgery, though it went without a hitch I'm told, and they've recovered beautifully.

I think I paid around £50 for a spay although that was about 8 years ago!

Not had a buck done, they've all arrived sans testicles already. :D
