What's with the folding?

Beau Belle

Mama Doe
So Bella, our 13-week old doe, has developed a funny habit: she folds the puppy pad in her tray in half, then pees on the part without a pad.

She has done this several times - I have no idea why. She'll pee on a pad *outside* the tray - but not in it. đź’ź

Why do you use a puppy pad? Maybe she doesn't like the smell, some of them have a very slight aroma...

We use Back-2-Nature topped with lots of hay - always pees there :)

Well, Poppet has short fur, so she has megazorb. Cookie used to live with Ricky who had long fur - they had puppy pads as megazorb and hay got stuck in his fur. He'd eat newspapers so that was a no - go (he'd previously lived with an owner who didn't feed him hay, so he ate paper). Cookie still has puppy pads which work very well, changed twice a day.

Bertie and Bella are lion head babies, and megazorb got stuck in baby fur, and a piece of hay got into Bertie's eye, which swelled shut, so I don't want hay in his tray in case it happens again. So - puppy pads seemed like the best solution.

Bertie is fine with them, but Bella will only pee on it as long as it isn't in the tray... Either on the floor in her base, or she folds it and pees directly on the plastic.
