Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Slight head rocking up and down at rest.

So took Rosie to vet Tuesday evening and she checked her over very thoroughly regarding her snoring and vet said no signs of any discharge or snuffles but the upper respiratory area was very slightly rattly. She gave her some Baytril for a week 0.4ml. Once a day 10% solution and I have to say it has helped the wheezing and snoring loads so something must have been going on. Thing is Rosie is still doing a lot of stretched out lying down -not belly pressing. She does appear to be relaxed but every time she breathes out her head moves up about 1cm in time with her out breath. This happens every time she is lying down / relaxing and is a constant thing when lying down. She is eating well and pooping well and even binkying in the garden but she is defo resting and lying stretched out more. I don't know is it age ?? Or is something wrong. Or do I have to give baytril more time ??I Don't want to put her under for X-ray unnecessarily . Update. After her Baytril this evening she is a lot perkier and more running about. All 3 buns r a bit more sedate actually overall. It's just this slight head rocking thing which is worrying me. Anyone else notice this in their buns ??

If she is still fighting an upper respiratory infection, then I would expect that is causing the head movement. How long was the course of Baytril? It seems to be working - but you could ring the vet nurse in the morning and explain that you're still concerned. Much better to bother them unnecessarily than worry at home. Especially with the Bank Holiday weekend coming up ....

Perhaps you could also discuss with your nurse/vet the possibility of Bisolven to dissolve the mucous and some echinacea to build up her immune system:

Hope this helps

Have you noticed that her respiratory rate/effort is increased when she is lying down ? Also, when she has her head down to eat do you notice her eyes bulge, even very slightly ?

I would give the Vet another call as if the 'rocking' is a symptom that came on recently with or just after the snoring and the 'rocking' has not resolved then I would want the Vet to rule out possible problems in the chest cavity (not just in the lungs).

The Baytril is for 7 days. Should it be longer do u think ?? Oh and yes it was the specialist. Thanks for those links Might max will read when i get home from work.

Jane i watched her eatting her pellets this morning and defo no eye bulging. I assume that's good ? Her breathing has improved a lot since the baytril so i don't think it's strained now. Rosie alwsys would have done a subtle rocking when relaxed but maybe with the wheezing and snoring it just made it worse? And then i am just reading into it more. The rocking has improved also very slight now. I think I will give e the meds a few more days as there is improvement. But yes Jane i agree i would take her when she is in good form if i had to and not wait til she got worse. But as she is otherwise good i will wait as she had the stress of the long vet trip and each evening i have to burrito her for her meds which stresses her so i don't want to annoy her too much but will keep a close eye.. Hope that sounds ok. Thanks Jane and Might Max for ur replies. Always appreciated.

It sounds as though you have a good plan of action. Hopefully the full course of abx will be all that is needed. You are very vigilant and I know that you will take Rosie back to the Vet if you continue to have concerns about her xx

I should think that length of time on Baytril is fine, she shouldn't need any longer than that. I'm glad she seems more comfortable!
