  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lying down more than usual - please help

Wise Old Thumper
Scarlett keeps lying down and putting her legs out to the side it stretching then out behind her, I can't tell if something is wrong or not but it seems strange she usually is very active, it seeks like she us sliding around a bit. She doesn't seem to be very interested in her food right now but has eaten today. I'm calling the vets but I don't know what to say to them I don't know how stupid it sounds saying my rabbit is lying down more than usual

I'm getting myself into such a state

Milly sometimes does it if her tummy hurts instead of tummy pressing. Start of stasis or some gas maybe? Sometimes making mine run about a bit helps.

You don't sound stupid! Hope she's back to her active self quickly.

This is possibly the biggest over reaction ever by me  I have found a little sore on her foot I don't know if it's that. I've covered their bedroom floor with vetbed and blankets. She did run about normally downstairs on the rug, and she has eaten some hay and treats. Not a huge amount but something at least

Thanks hun. I hate when they just aren't quite right but you can't say exactly what it is

I'd give her a bit of time, maybe she just had an active few days and is tired. Mind you i can't talk. Molly is 10 this year and quitened down and spends a lot of time in his kennel I am so paranoid I feel like i am poking him all the time. Lol!

Maybe she had a bit of gas and lying on her tummy helped and it's now gone! I would keep an eye on the sore hock. I went to a talk with my specialist and he was saying how painful they are and the only way to get rid of it is to bandage it and also give metacam.

We all have overreactions, don't worry! I nearly had a fit a few months ago because I thought Milly had head tilt and had broken her leg... She'd wrapped her foot in her mane. I was ready to go to the vet and cancel all my plans

Glad she's eaten something :D

She is absolutely fine  stuffing her face as usual and running around normally. I honestly thought she had started to lose the use of her legs or something, I've never panicked so much in my life

I think she did have a bit of sore tummy as there are some softer poos than usual. I'm going to take her to the vets anyways about the sore on her foot so will mention

It could be the weather maybe? Is she indoors or outdoors? I find mine spend a lot of time lying down in the hutch on warm days. Glad she feels better now.

Lopsy was flat out on the grass, still eating it though, most of early evening last night because he's still got lots of winter fur and it was pretty warm, poor thing!
