  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just found this on Bunbuns, can anyone help?

Just found this on Bunbuns' back,
IMG_20150521_175143_burst_01.jpg

she was tried to be bonded with another bunny last week, and they fought badly, could this be a bite? I am going to book an appointment with a vet, but just wonder if someone knows what this may be as I am panicking a bit here.

Don't panic, it looks like a scratch that's healing up. The first time I saw this on my bunny I panicked too. They have delicate skin so it can get damaged easily. Go to the vets to get it checked out just to make sure everything's okay though - better to be safe than sorry

It could be a bite but as long as that's not pus that I can see, it doesn't look angry and I'd guess it's busy healing itself. Just can't tell from the photo whether the grey area is light coloured scab or pus that's forming.

I agree, it looks to be a healing wound.

Thanks for that, I just found out from the lady who runs the rescue place that their bunny had the same as well, and that's healing, so looks like it's from their fighting.

Just seen this. It looks like a bite or a scratch that's healing up to me. I wouldn't worry about it :D

Often tiny wounds from fights are not evident until they start to heal and form a slight scab. So I'd have a good feel all over Bunbun to make sure there are no other little injuries. Under the chin and around the rear end are often 'target areas' for nipping and scratching quarrelsome Rabbits.

Thanks for that, I found another one on her butt, but that's not half as bad, I checked her all over this morning again, and all seems fine, plus she's letting me look at those areas so they don't seem to cause her any discomfort. just so glad this forum is here, no idea what I would have done with everyone's help. :)
